Once a year in the world of beer the gauntlet is thrown down and brewers from all around the nation come together to see whose brews truly reign supreme. The Great American Beer Festival is a veritable who’s who of the industry, and an all around hop filled good time. It’s such a huge event that the festival…

  • Sold out in 1 hour & 17 minutes this year.
  • Saw an estimated 3,500 different beers poured in the festival hall—the largest selection of American beers ever served in one location.
  • Hosted 60,000 attendees (including ticketed attendees, brewers, judges, volunteers and journalists) this year.
  • Hosted 750+ U.S. breweries pouring brews in the festival hall this year—a new record!
  • Provided the city of Denver with a $7 million economic boost in 2012, according to Visit Denver, the city’s convention and visitors bureau.

Highlights

If you weren’t able to make it out to Colorado for the Festivities this past weekend, here’s SOME of what you missed:
  • The 2015 competition included three new style categories:
    • Category 8: Chili Pepper Beer
    • Category 16: Session India Pale Ale
    • Category 24B: Mixed Culture Brett Beer
  • This year ended with 38 first-time competing breweries winning awards.
  • The breweries with the most medals won, with three medals each, and definitely worth going out of your way to try one day were:
    • Firestone Walker Brewing Co., Paso Robles, Calif. (three medals: two gold, one bronze)
    • Sun King Brewing Co., Indianapolis, Ind. (three medals: one gold, one silver, one bronze)
    • Port City Brewing Co.; Alexandria, Va. (three medals: two silver, one bronze)
    • Left Hand Brewing Co.; Longmont, Colo. (three medals: one gold, two bronze)
